Soapstone, Not to be confused with stoneware, which is a kind of clay fired at high temperature, is handcrafted from a single block of natural, non-toxic soapstone. It can withstand temperatures of over 600 degrees and its thick and dense walls lets them retain heat twice as long as conventional metal cookware. The beautiful stone makes an impressive presentation from oven to table.
Soapstone is an all natural and sustainable materials that has been, and still is, used in Brazil for centuries. It retains heat well and holds in moisture. The pots are sturdy enough to go easily from stovetop to oven.
Soapstone must be seasoned or cured before use. Your purchase will include detailed instructions for preparing your piece. It is easy to do and requires no special materials - just time, heat and oil. Once seasoned, your piece will at more than a lifetime.
I have included photos of my soapstone piece after seasoning. Your piece will arrive a matt, light grey. Once seasoned and after multiple uses, it will turn darker, which accentuates nuances in the stone. They are so beautiful, you’ll want to find a place to display them when not in use.
Each piece is accented with copper. The copper will turn darker with time and use, as well. It can easily be restored with copper polish.
Your soapstone piece is not dishwasher or microwave safe. They are easily cleaned with soap and water once cooled.
12” Griddle - think of this piece as a skillet. It is great for making pizza and flatbread, but it also makes for a perfect non-stick, well, griddle. Use for searing a steak, cooking pancakes, or making an omelette.
it also makes a beautiful serving piece and can be refrigerated for serving sushi or even deviled eggs on the patio.
Brie Baker - 8.75” this little gem lives up to its title for baking a wheel of brie and serving it straight to the table. Also great for any other hot cheeses like halloumi. Use as a serving piece for hors d’oeuvres.
Cooking Pot: We offer 2 lidded pots; 1.5 litre and a 3 litre. These pots are the perfect bean pot; a long slow cook with even reliable heat is just what is needed. Use for any stew, chili, or braising of meats. It is a saucepan that retains heat and can go from stovetop to oven. Food retains moisture while cooking in the stone, so the outcome is a richer, better tasting dish. I know I am hooked and reach for mine often.
Mortar & Pestle: Soapstone is non-porous making it a great tool in food preparation. Use this to create curries that require a lot of pounding; a guacamole; salsas; or for grinding spices. It is heavy enough to remain stable while working your food and the stone pestle will do the job thoroughly.
