Good News!!!
For those of you who just cannot live without our luscious Italian balsamic vinegar and award-winning olive oils - I have a source for you!
You can buy all of our balsamic, infused olive oil, and our very popular Greek Koroneiki directly from the source.
Visit Laconiko.com to see the collection.
The Pierrakos brothers, from Sparta, Greece, grow the trees that produce the best olive oil in the world (in my opinion) and they import the unadulterated balsamic from Modena, Italy. All of the flavors you have become so accustomed to.
Dino and Diamantis are offering a 10% welcome discount to The Cookery customers with the code caryinthekitchen.
A Fond Farewell
After 11 years in the Village, we have closed the shop. It’s time to retire, hopefully travel, and cook a lot more!
Sunday, Jan 23 was our final day.
I will remain in the area and active in the food world. Please follow me @caryinthekitchen for updates; there will be a blog and, perhaps, cooking channel.
These years spent with you have been a joy that I will always treasure. The Cookery has been a labor of love for me, so saying goodbye is not without some sadness.
We have employed a group of tremendous people over these years and are proud of being a fair, generous, and open employer. Our team, some of whom have been with us for years, have been enthusiastic ambassadors of our brand. We are honored to have served you alongside them.
We have curated unique products by amazing makers focusing on creatives of color, the LGBTQI community, women, and immigrants who have enriched our tables. We chose to represent small businesses because they are underrepresented in big retail and because they create quality products with passion and integrity. We believed that you deserve the best.
And my, how we appreciate you, our customers. You stood by us as we evolved our brand six years ago (from Ah love Oil & Vinegar to The Cookery) and you supported us so generously through the pandemic. We stayed this long, and thrived this long, because you believed in us, supported us, and stayed loyal to us. We will miss seeing you every day and sharing your latest recipe or food find.
I have always believed that the best time to move into something new is when we can look back and feel satisfied with what is being left behind. I feel more than satisfied. This past year has been an amazing one; still with challenges from our unwelcome companion COVID, but a successful one for us in ways beyond the financial. This means that I am stepping away with a smile on my face and unbounded gratitude in my heart.
Gratefully,
Cary
We Were The Cookery
For 11 years, we were a marketplace in the Village at Shirlington in Arlington, VA representing artisan producers of culinary goods from around the world. The products we carry range from hand-crafted, small-batch ingredients to carefully-designed kitchen tools and cookware, and unique serveware – everything you need for your pantry, cupboard, and kitchen.
Entertaining
I believe that gathering around an abundant table can be healing, reconciling, and yes, great fun. I will be filling my Blog with photos of sharing along with recipes.
A Table for Everyone
I am committed to promoting equal rights and access. Our shop was a platform for supporting movements and fundraisers; I curated products that highlighted immigrants' rights; womens' rights; and the important voice of the Black Lives Matter movement. I will continue to use my voice to promote kindness and equal rights.
In the Kitchen
I explore, travel, taste, and study to curate unique and special products for your kitchen. My goal is that you find delight in wandering @CaryintheKitchen and are inspired to cook something new.
