Element Lemon Mint Shrub

Lemon Mint shrub is ther most versatile of Element’s flavors.  They call this the "gateway shrub".  Mixed with ice water, it tastes like a sophisticated lemonade.  With hot water, it will chase any chills away.  It is also great for salad dressings or drizzled over fresh mozzarella.  For cocktails, this is a great sour mix alternative. Pair with rum, whiskey or gin.

Element [Shrub] started a few years ago when Charlie Berkinshaw and his wife were pregnant with their first child.  

She had become increasingly dissatisfied with the selection of non-alcoholic beverages on the market and was craving something with more complexity made with real ingredients and not a ton of sugar.  

At the time, they were working with a group that foraged local fruit in Cambridge, Massachusetts. One day, after harvesting 400 pounds of crabapples, they were looking for new recipes for their bounty and came across the concept of shrubs: a way in which fruit was preserved during the colonial days using vinegar and sugar.  

After adding the shrub to some sparkling water, the result was a drink that satisfied every aspect of the craving. The vinegar added savory notes to the fruit and spices to create a flavor that was complex and refreshing. They were so taken with their concoction that they were inspired to experiment with other combinations to create a product that is truly unique and wholesome enough to drink every day.
